How to Opt-Out of Epsilon

Who is Epsilon?

Epsilon is one of the hundreds of data brokers collecting and selling information about you — and about 200 million other consumers in the United States and Canada (according to their website). Many of the largest credit cards and banks work with Epsilon. Among their many areas of focus is providing marketing services and consumer data primarily to retailers and loyalty programs.

The information they collect about you includes both ”identifiable information” (such as name, address, phone number, email address, gender, date of birth etc.) and ”identified information” (such as web pages you’ve visited, purchases you’ve made, etc.).

Here’s how to opt-out and remove your data from this data broker…

Step 1: Epsilon website footer

Go to the homepage for Epsilon at https://www.epsilon.com/us. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click on “Your Privacy Choices“.

On the page that follows titled “Consumer Privacy Rights”, scroll down to the dropdown to select your country (United States).

Step 3: Select the type of request

After selecting your country, a new section will open below the country field where you will select the request type “Do not sell my personal information” and then select “Consumer” from the dropdown below. (When you have completed the process, go through it a second time and select “Delete my Personal Information“.)

Step 4: Fill out the form

Fill out the form with your information and click the Submit request button. We recommend you use a disposable email address as data brokers are known to sometimes add your email address to their list even if it is used for the purpose of opting out!

Step 5: Successful submission -- and repeat process

After your form submission, you will see the success message.  Note that it may take some time to fulfill your request.  Assuming you provided a valid email address in Step 4’s form submission, you should receive notification of compliance with your request within a certain period of time. That period of time depends on the law in your state.  In states where there is a Privacy Law in place, there is typically a 90-day period during which Epsilon will need to reply to your request. In some states this is longer.

Now, go back to step 1 and repeat the process. This time, instead of selecting the option to opt-out from the sale of your data, select the option to delete your data to ensure maximum protection.
